The origins of this Catalan tradition of building human towers dates back to the 18th century. The individual groups colles started to compete in sporting events. Thus, not only the building itself was invented, but also the competition. The Colla Jove Castellars from Sitges was founded in 1993 and they wear a burgundy shirt. The most important festivals when Colla performs are during the Feast of Sant Jordi on April 23, the Festival of Sant Bartomeu (August 24) and the Festival of Santa Tecla on September 23. Cap de la Vila, the main town square is the place where they usually perform. The Castellera season closes in late October.
