Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona is one of the most interesting and beautiful parks in town. Rich of things to do and visit this park hosts Barcelona Zoo, the Parliament of Catalonia, the Natural Science museum, the beautiful Cascada (waterfall). The Cascada is an artistic fountain slightly resembling Fontana di Trevi in Rome which was designed by Catalan architect Josep Fontseré. In the park there is also a lake where you can hire small boats to paddle around the little lake by being surrounded by swans, ducks and a beautiful vegetation.
Just a few more words about the Natural Science museum. That is composed by a Geology and a Zoology museum. It was designed by super famous Catalan Modernist architect Lluís Doménech i Montaner in the occasion of the Exposición Universal de Barcelona in 1888. The building is constructed with red bricks and it is really beautiful.
Park de la Ciutadella is fairly large as it measure 70 acres and is just a very interesting place. There is a fascinating geometry with green alleys leading the visitors in a rational way thru the main interesting points. But one may also let himself go and discover relaxed corners or areas with casual entertainments. You can find performers playing bongos and drums, people doing tai chi or anti-gravity yoga as the person we filmed in this video. Inside the park there is also a stand where tango dancers meet to have their milonga.
Parc de la Ciutadella is a perfect place for youngster because of it’s proximity to the lovely Borne area which is now very touristic yet beautiful and full of bars, restaurants and a great shopping. It is also a perfect place for families as children can play safely away from cars and pollution. The museum of Natural Sciences is also a very good place to be visited with children as it provides education in a ludic way. There are several displays dedicated to small children among which there is the skeleton of a whale.
