Parc de la Ciutadella

Parc de la Ciutadella

Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona is one of the most interesting and beautiful parks in town. Rich of things to do and visit this park hosts Barcelona Zoo, the Parliament of Catalonia, the Natural Science museum, the beautiful Cascada (waterfall). The Cascada is an artistic fountain slightly resembling Fontana di Trevi in Rome which was designed by Catalan architect Josep Fontseré. In the park there is also a lake where you can hire small boats to paddle around the little lake by being surrounded by swans, ducks and a beautiful vegetation.

Just a few more words about the Natural Science museum. That is composed by a Geology and a Zoology museum. It was designed by super famous Catalan Modernist architect Lluís Doménech i Montaner in the occasion of the Exposición Universal de Barcelona in 1888. The building is constructed with red bricks and it is really beautiful.

Park de la Ciutadella is fairly large as it measure 70 acres and is just a very interesting place. There is a fascinating geometry with green alleys leading the visitors in a rational way thru the main interesting points. But one may also let himself go and discover relaxed corners or areas with casual entertainments. You can find performers playing bongos and drums, people doing tai chi or anti-gravity yoga as the person we filmed in this video. Inside the park there is also a stand where tango dancers meet to have their milonga.

Parc de la Ciutadella is a perfect place for youngster because of it’s proximity to the lovely Borne area which is now very touristic yet beautiful and full of bars, restaurants and a great shopping. It is also a perfect place for families as children can play safely away from cars and pollution. The museum of Natural Sciences is also a very good place to be visited with children as it provides education in a ludic way. There are several displays dedicated to small children among which there is the skeleton of a whale.

We visited Parc de la Ciutadella just few days ago and we filmed this short video that is capturing in just few seconds the essence of the park. I hope you will enjoy watching it! 🙂

Sitges Marina

Sitges Marina

Sitges Marina is a beautiful harbour where locals keep their sailing boats or motor yachts and tourists can rent one.

If you are driving from Barcelona the Marina is the exit before the town center exit. You can also get to the Marina with a very nice 20 minutes walk from San Sebastian beach. In fact, it is very recommended to take that walk as you can view many beautiful spots by following the pedestrian walking trail. One of these spots is Balmins church with its white washed walls reminding a bit of a Mexican style and a huge esplanade from where you can admire Sitges silhouette. The typical silhouette starts from the Sant Bartolomeu church and extends to the long beach and Paseo Maritimo ending to the 18 hole golf course of Terramar. As you keep walking you would pass the cemetery, walk on top of Balmins beach, a breathtaking beach, very popular among the gay community and also a nude beach. You would be then arriving to the Marina crowded with hundreds of beautiful boats distributed across several piers.

Sitges Marina has many bars and restaurants and it is a very well known place among the viveurs who are after an aperitif, a good meal and some fiesta.

To get a better idea on how the Sitges Marina looks like CLICK HERE! and check the video we filmed a couple of days ago on a gorgeous day at the end of December.

If you are visiting Sitges don’t forget to include Sitges Marina among the places to visit and spend a few enjoyable moments during the day or at night. Enjoy!

Surfing in Sitges

Yesterday, on November 2nd, it was one of those few days with clouds in Sitges. Actually it was very windy too and the sea was very rough! Such a perfect day for surfing!

This picture was taken by our guests at Casita Sitges who have been energised by such weather. Looking at the waves and looking at the surfers heading to the beach gave them the desire to go surfing! They immediately went to a surf shop to rent a board.

If you want to do aquatic sports in Sitges the easiest way is to go to the Nautic Club next to San Bartolomeu i Santa Tecla church at La Fregata beach.
